DESCRIPTION:Join us for the July installment of SpectrumX’s Radio Shop Chat series. This month our featured guest is Oscar Bejarano\, Senior Wireless Research Engineer\, of Rice University. \nThe Radio Shop Chat will be hosted on July 25\, 2023\, from 3-4 p.m. ET / Noon-1 PT. \nRegistration is free and required. \nRegister Here. \nAbstract: Massive MIMO* (mMIMO) technology leverages a very large number of antennas at the base station to substantially improve wireless spectrum utilization and system capacity. Thus\, mMIMO is considered an essential technology for 5G and future wireless networks. However\, developing a scalable and reliable mMIMO system is extremely challenging\, hampering the ability of the wireless community to advance research in next-generation wireless systems. This “research bottleneck” motivated us to develop a deployable experimental mMIMO platform to enable research across many different areas. In this talk\, we introduce RENEW\, an open-source\, fully programmable\, and observable massive MIMO framework for enabling next-gen wireless network research. With RENEW\, the wireless research community can test diverse ideas and concepts\, ranging from low-level PHY prototyping\, all the way to novel high-level applications. \nBio: Dr. Oscar Bejarano is a senior wireless research engineer at Rice University. He holds a B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin\, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in the same field from Rice University. With over a decade of experience in industry and academia\, Oscar has contributed to the design\, prototyping\, and demonstration of next-generation mobile and wireless systems. Currently\, he manages the National Science Foundation-sponsored RENEW project and leads a Department of Defense-sponsored project focused on 5G prototype enhancements for dynamic spectrum sharing and spectrum co-existence. \n\nThe SpectrumX Radio Shop Chats are a collegial debate on the pressing issues and optimal model for managing spectrum\, as a complex interplay among technology\, economics\, law\, and policy.
