SpectrumX, the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Spectrum Innovation Center, is pleased to announce that CTIA has joined its Collaboration Advisory Board (CAB).
Established in 1984, CTIA® is a trade association representing the US wireless industry. It brings together companies across the ecosystem, including wireless providers, device manufacturers, suppliers, and messaging and technology companies. CTIA advocates at all levels of government for policies that promote wireless innovation and investment to keep America connected and competitive.
“CTIA is pleased to join the NSF SpectrumX Collaboration Advisory Board,” said Kurt Schaubach, chief technology officer at CTIA. “Licensed spectrum is the fuel of wireless innovation, and as demand for connectivity continues to surge, we’re glad to bring our members’ technical expertise to SpectrumX’s research as we work to meet that demand.”
The partnership will allow CTIA to share information about the spectrum challenges it faces directly with the Center’s ready-made pool of experts, enabling multidisciplinary, collaborative problem-solving.
“We are very excited to welcome CTIA to the SpectrumX Collaboration Advisory Board,” said Cong Shen, deputy director of NSF SpectrumX’s Collaboration, Innovation, & Commercialization Working Group. “CTIA brings an important, broad industry perspective at a pivotal time for wireless innovation, spectrum sharing, AI, and future 6G systems. Through this collaboration, SpectrumX can help provide advanced research and technical expertise that inform decision-makers and connect real-world industry needs with the creativity and rigor of the academic research community.”
Organizations that join the CAB support SpectrumX’s research, education, and workforce development efforts by:
- Presenting challenges and industry needs to the NSF SpectrumX community. This can be done in CAB meetings, individual meetings with researchers or program leadership, or at regularly scheduled meetings (e.g., Working Group meetings, Center meetings).
- Participating in SpectrumX meetings and events in-person, virtually, or asynchronously. The agreement also enables researchers and students to visit CAB facilities, and vice versa, to build relationships and knowledge of needs, challenges, and innovations.
- Interacting with SpectrumX community members, from research partners and leadership to SpectrumX-affiliated students. CAB members are also encouraged to review interim and annual reports to learn more about the research being conducted and achieved through the SpectrumX Center.
