Abstract
Accurate and up-to-date information on wireless broadband coverage is essential for both consumers and policymakers, but is often difficult to acquire at a granular level. We present SigCap, a platform designed for the crowdsourced measurement and analysis of cellular and Wi-Fi signals. The platform consists of a mobile application that collects signal data from user devices and a centralized database with a front-end for data analysis and extraction. This end-to-end solution provides a scalable method for mapping wireless networks. We demonstrate the platform’s effectiveness through the Broadband MAP US project: a successful initiative where students from various US universities utilized the SigCap app to collect extensive signal data, showcasing its potential for large-scale, community-driven broadband mapping.
